Piece #82 - A deep Depression

I realize Christmas is coming and coming soon. I've always heard that Christmas time is one the most depressing times in the whole year! I have no numbers or articles to back this statement, but I think we can agree that depression can run really high during this time of the year. As everyone else, I've always heard about it and I thought I understood it, but I think in some way I really didn't. I could recall on several occasions as a teacher when I felt 'down' and disheartened, but I wouldn't call being it being depressed. Before I even knew that I had Asperger's, I probably assumed I was in a chronic state of being depressed, but I can honestly say that was never the case. There were many times when I was highly stressed, but not depressed. At this point it would be a good idea to see how the Webster Dictionary defines ‘depression’:   a serious medical condition in which a person feels very sad, hopeless, and unimportant and often is unable to live in a ...

Piece #58 - Lost

I think the greatest irony in living in this world is though there are billions of people on this planet; we still have times when we feel lost. Actually, lost can mean a lot of things from identity, friends, location, or worst of all...self. I'll bet that for many of you, it feels like you’re missing a piece of yourself. Of course if you’re naturally lost in a location then you are missing direction. (And, yes, that has happened to me on more occasions than I'm willing to admit at this time. However, I did get a smart phone and I can now say 'thank you Lord for GPS'!!!) I will admit that I have gotten lost in my own city; that I have lived in for most of my life!!!! (I know, that's pretty sad.) And no, that has nothing to do with my Asperger's. I will forget stuff, as I've mentioned in the past, but not when I'm driving around in the city that I live in for crying out loud! As for movies and television shows that dealt with being lost, I was never a ...

Piece #35 - Christmas!

I intentionally waited until December to write this particular blog. Unlike many stores who seem to think that Christmas starts in August , I actually was patience enough to write this within the month. Of course, if you ask the question 'What is your most favorite time of the year?’ some will say summer, but many would say Christmas . I wanted to write this early because Christmas is one of those holidays that are a full season, not just one day. I think this is the one time when I enjoy the days leading up to Christmas more than the actual day itself. It's amazing how things change so quickly, from the decorations, lights, trees and all the other Christmas displays that spring up faster that lightning! There is no other holiday that has this effect on our society as much as this one. With my Asperger’s, Christmas can be a little difficult because the traditions that I did as a child are not the same as an adult. Worse than that, my tradition is constantly changin...

Piece #19 - November

If I ever get the chance to write my biography, the title would have to be November . I'm intentionally writing this blog during the actual month. If you've had the chance to read the last 18 entries, you'll already understand why my biography would be thusly titled. One thing I didn't realize about the month was that November is Pancreatic Cancer Awareness month. ( There's a lot of irony in that! ) If you look, you'd be amazed at how many famous people have died from the disease. Of course, many of you all know that my birthday is in this month ( 6 th , Yes I’m a Scorpio ), but many of my family members are/were in November as well. I've also mentioned that my wedding anniversary is on the 25th of the month and if my daughter Megan and her husband had some patience, they were aiming for November 11, 2011. (11-11-11) My daughter thought it was good luck if you caught the time at 11:11, then you could make a wish. I can understand why they didn't wait t...
